Overview

BetaShares is one of Australia’s leading investment managers, specialising in exchange traded funds (ETFs) and innovative investment solutions. With over $45 billion in funds under management, they are recognised as a major player in the financial services industry, serving both retail and institutional investors.

Since 2022, Webplace has worked closely with BetaShares to build and maintain their Australian and New Zealand websites. During this collaboration, it became clear that the process of creating new pages was inefficient, as each page had to be designed from scratch. This need for a more streamlined approach led to the recommendation for a comprehensive design system.

Challenge

Prior to the implementation of the new design system, BetaShares faced several challenges. The absence of a standardised design framework meant that there was a lack of consistency in both design and development across the website. This inconsistency not only impacted the user experience but also made the creation of new pages and layouts a complex and time-consuming process. The manual approach to design increased the risk of errors and made it difficult to maintain a cohesive brand identity throughout the site.

Solution

To address these issues, a component-based approach was adopted, with all design elements developed as reusable components. A Figma design library was created to serve as the foundation for all new designs, ensuring that every element adhered to the established brand guidelines. In parallel, the WordPress website was redeveloped to take advantage of the block-based system, allowing for the use of manageable, pre-designed blocks across all pages. Training sessions were also conducted with the BetaShares team, equipping them with the skills to use the new design library and maintain consistency across the site. This approach enabled the creation of complex page layouts based on pre-existing design patterns, significantly simplifying the process of rolling out new pages.

The result

The implementation of the design system has had a tangible impact on the way BetaShares manages its online presence. The marketing team now has the capability to layout designs in Figma and create pages within WordPress with improved speed and consistency. New pages developed on the website utilise the pre-existing patterns and components, ensuring a uniform look and feel that is both consistent and compatible with the overall site design. This streamlined approach has not only reduced the time required for page creation but has also reinforced the integrity of the BetaShares brand across its digital platforms.
